Resilient Faith

Resilient Faith

The artwork titled "Thankful Remembrance" invites us to reflect on a profound truth: when we emerge from seasons of hardship, we recognize how faithfully the Lord sustained us through the storm.

Poppies possess a delicate beauty that belies their strength. Their paper-thin petals endure the fiercest weather, bending without breaking—a living metaphor for resilience in the face of adversity.

The Poppy's Sacred History

Across cultures and centuries, the poppy has become a symbol of suffering, remembrance, and loss. This significance deepened during World War I, when vast fields of poppies bloomed across Flanders Field, a site of devastating battle. The flower's presence amid such tragedy transformed it into an enduring emblem of sacrifice. Folklore says the field poppies turned red because of the war.

In 2014, Britain honored the centennial of their involvement in World War I with a powerful installation at the Tower of London. Nearly 900,000 hand-crafted ceramic poppies filled the moat—each one representing a British life lost in the war. The installation stood as a breathtaking testament to collective grief and collective remembrance.

Strength Through Faith

In moments of loss and suffering, we are reminded of God's unwavering presence. As written in 1 Peter 5:10: "After you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you."

Like the poppy, we too are called to resilience—not through our own strength alone, but through the grace that sustains us. In remembrance and in hope of what the Lord has done, we find the courage to bloom again.
